No, Itoju Mentoring program is completely free!

The program lasts 4 months, with the first cohort starting in September 2024. Mentors and mentees will need to connect in person or online at least twice a month. At the start of the program, mentee-mentor pairs will discuss their goals, expectations, and preferred meeting schedules.

Primarily first or second-year Black international post-secondary students from African countries. Third and fourth-year students may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Mentees must be living and studying in Ontario, and committed to the 4-month program.

Black folks with firsthand experience navigating the Canadian education system as international students from African countries. Mentors can reside within or outside of Canada. All ages are welcome to apply. Mentors must commit to supporting a youth for 4 months.

Based on the number of available mentors, mentees will be matched according to their major, career interests, and mentorship goals. Mentors may be paired with up to two mentees.

Mentors and mentees will receive a Mentoring Guide for the 4 months that includes the live session dates, weekly themes, guiding topics, resources, and suggested activities. 

Mentees who meet program engagement expectations may be eligible for a $500 stipend.

Mentors will also receive some training at the beginning. You will not be alone during this journey! The program leads are also available to support mentors and mentees
